This morning was our annual Fantasy Football draft, and let’s just say I’m feeling really confident about the team; I managed to snag Stompin’ Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald, and Chad “this is my bounce-back year” Ochocinco.  In music-related news, I came across a really cool project last week called The Transit Tapes.  It is described as a “live music performance series” coming out of Toronto that matches up emerging Canadian indie acts with local production talent; The result is a little bit of spectacular.  The clip I chose to highlight today is Pullin’ Punches from the Arkells‘ Polaris long-listed debut full-length album Jackson Square, released in October of 2008.  For more from the Arkells, have a look here.

No you don’t hold grudges
against those who hold blood love
You know his renegade escapades
can all be traced where he comes from
There were times he went missing
but you could always find his heart
When you head back to Kingston
you can find him on your old block
Do you strike those years from the record?
Or do you take em face to face?
I know you’re one to pull no punches honey
And I love you that way
The phone rings in the morning
You keep picking up half asleep
At times, he’ll call beaming
At times he’ll call you in defeat
Do you strike those years from the record?
or do you take em face to face?
I know you’re one to pull no punches honey
And I know you’ll never change
When you’re pulling into town
you pass the places that you lived and as a kid you moved around
but if you don’t mind,
but if you don’t mind now
There’s no reason to forget
So cancel your plans for the weekend
You’ll be taking that greyhound home
This ain’t much for timing, but you can’t live scared of picking up the phone

Cool video - did they film this just on a public bus? If so that's major kudos. It makes it so real and raw plus it has a kind of hidden camera experiment fell about it then.

  • Yeah I believe they just hop onto street cars and do their thing. Not sure if there are others on there while they do it, but that would be a pretty sick show to stumble into.
