After years of backing Canada’s indie-elite, folk rocker Alfie Jurvanen took his Robbie Robertson-esque step out of the shadows last summer (Jurvanen went with live mics mind you). Under the moniker Bahamas, which is inspired by the Wreckless Eric classic (I’d Go the) Whole Wide World, Jurvanen released his debut LP “Pink Strat” on July 21st of 2009, via the Toronto based Nevado Records; the album includes easily the best cover of said Wreckless Eric song you will hear this year. The catalyst for Jurvanen’s foray into solo waters ended up being a 2-year international tour as guitarist/pianist for Feist, circa. 1234’s popularity peak; In an act of homage paying (for whom is up to you), Feist performs on a number of tracks off Pink Strat. For more from the album, the first single Already Yours is also listed below.
Though there were men before me
That held you in their arms
With a love so hot and getting hotter
They’re setting off fire alarms
Though their were girls before you
I don’t remember their names
Ain’t it a beautiful thing to watch our love, or season change
Every night when I lay you down, lay you down to sleep
You know, I’m thanking the lord for blessing you with hockey teeth
Though you might have a plan
Those plans are all in the past
Who among us could know
That our love would come and grow so very fast
Seems like we got in your car
And drove that car to the beach
And ever since that day,
Never very far away, or out of reach
Every night when I lay you down, lay you down to sleep
You know I’m thanking the lord for blessing you with hockey teeth
Every morning when we wake up and our lips meet
You know I’m thanking the lord for blessing you with hockey teeth
