The self-described (and by no means out of line) “sonic tour-de-force” Broad Way Sleep released their self-titled debut LP on February 9th; Too Late is the first single supporting the album, and was released in the first half of November last year. The Toronto song-writing collective is made up of Ralph Joseph, Alexander The (Styrofoam Ones), Sarah Shafey and Robert Bolton (Times Neue Roman), Rique Franks, Kevin Fox, and is mixed by Juno Award winner Vic Florencia. Canadian Olympic hockey is on and they are on a power-play, so I am stealing a description of today’s song from the band’s website, in lieu of half-assing my own:
“…with its boom clap beats, boulevard poetics and infectious hooks, [Too Late] is a cinematic experience for your headphones and surround sound system.”
From more from the band, their website is listed below.
Now what’s the deal, all my friends are gone
The smoke has cleared, must have passed out
In my studio, I did all I could
In this vampire cave, in this neighbourhood
I guess it’s too late, too late, too late
Too want you
Too late, too late, too late
Oh is it too late, too late, too late
To love you
Mr. Auctioneer, Can I buy some time
For all the ?, to the paper chases in my mind
So all the girls, and all the boys
With the backyard rhythm, to this broken voice
I guess it’s too late, too late, too late
Too want you
Too late, too late, too late
Oh too late, too late, too late
To love you
This night parade, we could beat the drum
We could tire out all the ? that’s in our lungs
For the chance to play, for the ?
As the clan obeys, the changing strum
I guess it’s too late, too late, too late
Too want you
Too late, too late, too late
Oh too late, too late, too late
I guess it’s t0o love you
You, me, dance away
Chance, dance memory
La da da da
Too late
