Tonight’s post is coming out later than usual, thanks in part to terrible drivers on the highway that don’t understand the concept of merging, speed limits, or lanes. Anyways, during my daily Facebook-creeping window I came across this tune in an old friend’s status and remembered how much I loved it. Mexico comes from CakeCake reviews
’s third album Prolonging the MagicProlonging the Magic reviews
, released in 1998. The album would peak at #33 on Billboard’s top 200.
Sometimes described as alternative-rock, sometimes described as indie-rock, Cake will always be described (by me) as one of the most unique bands I have listened to. The combination of musical genres the band taps into and John McCrea’s Sprechgesang delivery always sets Cake apart.
I had a match, but she had a lighter
I had a flame, but she had a fire
I was bright, but she was much brighter
I was high, but she was the sky
Oh baby, I was bound for mexico
Oh baby, I was bound to let you go
I dont know much about cinco de mayo
Im never sure what its all about
I say I want you, and you dont believe me
You say you want me, but Ive got my doubts
Oh baby, I was bound for mexico
Oh baby, I was bound to let you go
I had a match, but she had a lighter
I had a flame, but she had a fire
I was bright, but she was much brighter
I was high, but she was the sky
Oh baby, I was bound for mexico
Oh baby, I was bound to let you go
