How about those Red Wings? They are just so solid front-to-back, it is really really disgusting. Anyways, tonight’s tune comes to us from the Calgary, Alberta (where I live) indie-rock artist Chad VanGaalen. Willow Tree can be found as the opening track to VanGaalen’s third album Soft Airplane, released in September of 2008. Not only is VanGaalen an incredibly gifted singer/songwriter, he is also a highly acclaimed illustrator and animator, with many of his pieces being featured across Canada. I’m not completely certain when the cut-off for the Polaris Prize is, but if Soft Airplane is eligible for this year’s award I am willing to bet at least $20 that it makes the long-list when it is released on June 15th.
Sleep all day
Just waiting for the sun to set
I hang my clothes
Up on the line
When I die
I’ll hang my head beside the willow tree
When I’m dead
Is when I’ll be free
And you can take my body
Put it in a boat
Light it on fire
You can use the kerosene
Take my body
Put it in a boat
Light it on fire
Send it out to sea
Woo, woo
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Sleep all day
Just waiting for the sun to set
I hang my clothes
Up on the line
When I die
I hang my head beside the willow tree
When I’m dead
Is when I’ll be free
So you can take my body
Put it in a boat
Light it on fire
Use the gasoline
Take my body
Put it in a boat
Light it on fire
Send it out to sea
