I haven’t listened to a lot of Dallas Green/City and Colour in about 6 months. This is due in part to a self-inflicted saturation of the project in 2008 and early 2009, and in part to my discovery of Dan Mangan last year, who has fared quite admirably in satisfying my moody acoustic/folk-rock needs. However, when I heard The Girl today I was unavoidably returned to my spot on the City and Colour wagon. The track can be found on Dallas Green’s second full-length solo effort Bring Me Your Love, released in February of 2008. As is the norm for Mr. Green, he delivers a song, that would come across as overly sappy from almost anyone else, in a way that feels genuinely genuine. For more from Bring Me Your Love, we’ve also posted the following songs.

City and Colour -- Sleeping Sickness
I wish I could do better by you,
Cause its what you deserve.
You sacrifice so much of your life,
In order for this to work.
While I’m off chasing my own dreams,
Sailing around the world,
Please know that I’m yours to keep,
My beautiful girl.
When you cry a piece of my heart dies,
Knowing that I may have been the cause,
If you were to leave, fulfil someone else’s dreams,
I think I might totally be lost.
You don’t ask for no diamond rings,
No delicate string of pearls,
That’s why I wrote this song to sing,
My beautiful girl.
I wish I could do better by you,
Cause It’s what you deserve.
You sacrifice so much of your life,
In order for this to work.
While I’m off chasing my own dreams, (my own dreams)
Sailing around the world, (around the world)
Please know that I’m yours to keep,
My beautiful girl.
When you cry a piece of my heart dies,
Knowing that I may have been the cause,
If you were to leave, fulfil someone else’s dreams,
I think I might totally be lost.
But you don’t ask for no diamond rings, (diamond rings)
No delicate string of pearls, (string of pearls)
That’s why I wrote this song to sing,
My beautiful girl.
But you don’t ask for no diamond rings, diamond rings
No delicate string of pearls, string of pearls
That’s why I wrote this song to sing,
My beautiful girl.
