The west-coast trio of Ashleigh Ball, David Beckingham, and David Vertesi (otherwise known as Hey Ocean!) released their sophomore LP “It’s Easier To Be Somebody Else” in September of 2008. The album, described by the band as “funked up party-pop”, follows-up on the group’s 2006 debut effort “Stop Looking Like Music”‘; today’s song Fish can be found on the former release. After spending much of 2009 touring in support of the latest album, Hey Ocean! is poised to start 2010 with a splash (that wasn’t intentional; I’m better than that; I’m also leaving it) by joining the already impressive ensemble of Canadian artists performing as part of the Vancouver Olympics. At present, the band has a show booked in Richmond on February 13th, and in Surrey on the 20th. For more from the band, check out their MySpace posted below.

I dream the cars outside my window were actually waves
Slipped in over the sill and carried me away
Swept me out to sea and that’s where I stayed
Learned to live among the fish and seaweed maids
Friends with the mermaid who was secretly in love with a whale
Well that’s another tale within itself
It’s just that I felt so at east slipping in and out of those ocean breezes
You know some things were made for one thing
For me that one thing is the sea
Some things were made for one thing
For me that one thing is the sea
Walking through the mountains as a child
Gasping for air
Nothing could compare to the moment we’d reach that glacier stream
And I’d plunge beneath these icy waters
Oh
I could finally breathe
Felt this release
This sweet relief
Oh
I was relieved
This immediate release
This sweet relief
Oh
I was relieved
I could finally breathe
You know some things were made for one thing
For me that one thing is the sea
Some things were made for one thing
For me that one thing is the sea
Driving through the flat plains feeling dizzy
People with me wondering why
All I could do was reply with this
I am a fish
I am a fish and I need water
(I am a fish)
(I am a fish and I need water)
I am a fish
I am a fish
Perhaps the daughter of some forgotten titan
You know some things were made for one thing
For me that one thing is the sea
Some things were made for one thing
For me that one thing is the sea
