I’ve got another fantastic song today, from a band that seems to have an affinity for creating fantastic songs. Last year, Hey Rosetta! unleashed (yes, unleashed is a fair description) their second album Into Your Lungs (and around in your heart and on through your blood) to the masses. With Canadian indie legend Hawksley Workman at the helm as producer, the album delivered a Tour de Force of passion-filled sweeping epics. The album would go on to win the Album of the Year award at the inaugural Verge Music Awards, receive a nomination for the 2008 Atlantis Music Prize, and short-list the band into gala-performance position for this year’s Polaris Music Prize. At said gala, the band’s impassioned performance of Tired Eyes, was arguably the highlight of the show. Today’s song, I’ve Been Asleep for a Long, Long Time, is the second track from the album. For more from the album, check out the other songs we have posted below.
Hey Rosetta! -- Black Heart
Hey Rosetta! -- Red Heart
Hey Rosetta! -- A Thousand Suns
Ive been asleep for a long, long time
Blond hair to brown and then brown to white
My ma is buried beside my dad
But I was asleep for all of that
I shut my eyes for a moments rest
Cause I get so tired
What thing transpired while my body slept?
Beset my mind
All the schools that I went to have all been closed
And all of my teachers are dead I suppose
The songs that we sung have all gone quiet
What happens below as you sleep at night?
I shut my eyes for a moments rest
Cause I get so tired
What things transpired while my body slept?
Beset my mind
The rivers up, the reeds are caught
Halfway across what never was
The water rose and swept in slow
When the reeds awoke they were half below
Ive been asleep for a long, long time
Blond hair to brown and then brown to white
My ma is buried beside my dad
But I was asleep for all of that
Ive been asleep for a long, long time
Blond hair to brown and brown to white
My ma is buried beside my dad
But I was asleep for all of that
For all of that
