I’ve got another song for everyone today from the Montreal-based indie-rock/pop band IslandsIslands reviews
. Switched On can be found as the opening track to the band’s 3rd full-length album Vapours, released on September 22nd of this year. In an interview with Pitchfork over the summer, Islands’ front-man Nicholas Thorburn (Nick Diamonds) described his mindset during the making of the album as ”I needed to withdraw from overblown metaphors and filling every possible sonic space. So this record is just made up of sequenced programming, synths, drum machines, guitars, and real bass. And an electric sitar.” For more from Thorburn, and his various projects/side-projects (The Unicorns and Human Highway), we’ve previously posted the following songs:
Islands -- No You Don’t
The Unicorns -- Sea Ghost
Human Highway -- The Sound
I’ve put on something you can’t switch off
I won’t buy, you won’t cry
I know i will and you know how it feels
on the northside on the southside
they sing along long when you switch on
You switch on for the city
long gone from the city
come on strong winds move on
you belong in the city
I’m long for the city
switch on a sad song when I’m gone
when in new york
I stay indoors go into the city
and switch up the pity
on the train someone says
something about how jesus saves
but I’m too lost to be found
you put on a good face, when i wasn’t around
on the eastside
on the westside
they sing along when you switch on
You switch on for the city
long gone from the city
come on strong winds move on
you belong in the city
I’m long for the city
switch on a sad song when I’m gone
