Today’s song comes from the Canadian independent music journeyman John Southworth and his 6th full-length album “Mama Tevatron”, released on October 13th of this year. The album marks a distinct shift in Southworth’s discography, towards a much more minimalist brand of pop instrumentation; according to his press releases this makes for a more accessible sound, though I rarely hear people complain about not being able to get into his previous work. The song I chose to highlight from the album is the defiantly teeth-gritted wanderer I Get It Now, which is currently garnering the majority of my listening from the rest of the album. Well Saturn stands in front of me
And Neptune has his blood in me
Prometheus has come for me
To read me through the fire scene
All of my life
I have been lied to
Now I must fight through
To hear the truth again
To dance with you again
You don’t have to tell me that the universe compels me
Well I get it now
Yes I get it now
You don’t have to say that the mystery is great
‘Cause I get it now
I get it now
I get it I get it I really get it now
Well hunch backs leave your Notre Dames
And Bigfoot board the evening trains
Go carve the face of Crazy Horse
In the rock of Mt. Remorse
I can see it in your eyes
Just how long you’ve mis-trusted
Why won’t you seek justice
Among these Bonapartes, that tear the heart apart
You don’t have to tell me that the universe is lovely
Well I get it now
Yes I get it now
You don’t have to say that the mystery is great
‘Cause I get it now
Yes I get it now
I get it I get it I really get it now
What if I, what if I dance on fire
With a rose in my mouth
What if I, what if I turn to life
Would they get it now
Well fire has come
To tear down the fences
Shatter the senses
You don’t have to tell me that the compels me
Well I get it now
Yes I get it now
You don’t have to say that that love will find a way
‘Cause I get it now
Yes I get it now
All I want to do is dance with you
‘Cause I get it now
I get it now
I get it I get it I really get it now
What if I, what if I dance on fire
With a rose in my mouth
What if I, what if I turn to life
Would they ever get it now
