Today’s song is one of those numbers that makes me wish BowlingStone’s audience was larger than 400-ish daily readers.  There’s still 2 months left in 2009, but I can’t see another tune replacing this as my favorite song of the year; so do me a solid and share this with everyone you know.  The opening line to this song “I built a rocket ship out of mud and sticks.  You said it looked like a nest but I swear it was a rocket ship.” actually brings me physical pain, as I wish I could produce lyrics like this.  Old World can be found on Meatdraw’s forthcoming sophomore release “Fin Du Monophone”.  The album follows up the Victoria, British Columbia indie-rock band’s self-titled debut effort, released in July of 2007.  For more from the band, check out their MySpace here, and their website here.

I built a rocket ship
Out of mud and sticks
You said it looked like a nest but I swear it was a rocket ship
Each night I get inside
And I, I close my eyes
And wait for the world to change by the time that I get out again

Old world old body
Old world old body
Old ugly world
You’re looking pretty good now

I miss my TV screen
I miss my magazine
I miss my shitty job that never taught me anything
I was an engineer
I feel so useless here
I wish I spent my time learning how to live outside

Oh new world you are ugly
Oh new world you are cruel
Old world come and save us from this awful dreaded lifeline

Old world old body
Old world old body
Old ugly world
You’re looking pretty good now

And lying in bed now for days
But your eyes can not hold my gaze
And dreaming at night time is fine
But not all the time
