I often find that my reception of a song is overly coupled to my state of mind at the time. Julie is aware of this, as she has learned to never introduce me to a song first thing in the morning, after a night of drinking; I stopped listening to Crystal Castles for about 3 months after an episode like this. The first time I listened to Tegan and Sara’s 2002 release If It Was You, for whatever the reason, Living Room didn’t jump out at me, and I’ve never really listened to it since. However, when I heard the song today, and heard the way the girls deliver the final rounds of “Well I hope I never figure out who broke your heart”, I had to wonder how I’ve managed the last 7 years without this song.
My windows look into your living room
I spend the afternoon on top of you
I wonder what it is
That I did to make you move in
Across the way from me
I hope I never figure out
Who broke your heart
And if I do, if I do
I’d spend all night losing sleep
I’d spend the night and I’d lose my mind
Well I’d spend the night and I’d lose my mind
My windows look into your bathroom
Well I spend the evening watching
You get yourself clean and
I wonder why it is
That they left this bathroom so unclean
So unlike me
I hope I never figure out
Who broke your heart
And if I do, if I do
I’d spend all night losing sleep
I’d spend the night and I’d lose my mind
I’d spend the night and I’d lose my mind
I’d spend all night losing sleep
I’d spend the night and I’d lose my mind
If I spend the night then I’d lose my mind
Well I hope I never figure out who broke your
heart
And baby if I do
Well I hope I never figure out who broke your
heart
Baby if I do
Well I’d spend all night losing sleep
I’d spend the night and I’d lose my mind
If I spend the night then I’d lose my mind
Spend all night losing sleep
I’d spend the night and I’d lose my mind
If I spend the night then I lose my mind
Spend all night losing sleep
I’d spend the night and I’d lose my mind
If I spend the night then I lose my mind
