I returned to the office after lunch today and found a wonderful surprise in my Facebook news feed; that surprise was the new video from my Calgary indie-rock heroes The Dudes. The video is for Girl Police, which is the newest single to be released in support of the band’s most recent EP “Blood. Guts. Bruises. Cuts”, which hit shelves in June of this year. If you are going to be in the Calgary area on October 9th, I strongly advise you to get your hands on tickets to The Dudes’ show at the MacEwan Ballroom. Also on the bill will be The Dudes’ spin-off project Dojo Workhorse (heard here), and Mr. Michael Bernard Fitzgerald (heard here and here).
the girl police are coming over, comb your hair pretend you’re sober
andy, lock the stash in the bottom drawer.
the woman fuzz are coming for us, they’re hardened by drawn out divorces
averse to our verses, deplore the chorus.
ooh hoo, they surround our places… arrested by our handsome faces
the cold, long arm of the law has got ruby glitter painted claws.
the lady cops are coming for me, let’s Jovi out in a blaze of glory
tell my ma i’m sorry, that’s my story.
it was our antic romantic disasters, that got the girl cops lord in after us
to drag our names through the mud, to get their hands in our blood.
ooh hoo, they want to hole us up in their lockdown… a year for every precious heart we’ve
knocked down. less a day for every night we rocked out. (and we always rocked out)
cause stephy likes jimmy, but jimmy likes eric and eric likes jess. its an awful mess an awful mess. denis caught monique kissing on francois outside the depaneur,
so they’re done for sure…
i. want. my. tone.
they want to hole us up in their lockdown…a year for every precious heart we’ve
knocked down. less a day for every night we rocked out. (and we always rocked out)
cause jenny like marvin and marvin like arnold and arnold likes jess. oh i guess everyone likes jess. but jesse ain’t dating, she’s down in the basement listening to pet sounds
her mom’s 45’s get the best sounds.
lovin’ is easy, lovin’ is easy and losing it’s rough
high grade, powerful stuff. and lovin’ will leave you, lovin’ will leave me and in our defense
its awful hard to keep in the present tense.
i. want. my. tone.
