Today’s song is another gorgeous effort from Toronto’s The Rural Alberta Advantage.  In the Summertime is the closing track from the indie-rock trio’s debut full-length album Hometowns, independently released in early 2008 and then re-released on July 7th of this year following the band’s signing with Saddle Creek Records.  I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I just can’t get over how much Nils Edenlof sounds like Jeff Mangum when he throws himself into a lyric.  If there are any readers from Ontario/Quebec reading this post, The Rural Alberta advantage is kicking off an Ontario/Quebec tour that started in Hamilton last night, and is set to wrap up in London on the 21st.  A full list of tour stops can be found on the band’s website here.  For more from the album, we’ve also posted Don’t Haunt This Place below:

The Rural Alberta Advantage – Don’t Haunt This Place

In the summertime,
I don’t know if the stars were aligned.
We’d stumble onto something we would like
And I’m afraid I lost the words tonight

And in your summer dress, was holding you
But you were holding less
It’s not the words, it’s the ones you stress
I love as I love you just don’t love me less

And once in a while,
I know our hearts beat of time.
And once in a while,
I know they’ll fall back in line.

And in the summertime,
I don’t know if the stars were aligned
We’d stumble onto something we would like
And I’m afraid I lost the words tonight

And when we’re middle aged,
You tell me I loved you like a renegade
And how I say the things that make you sway.
And mostly I tell you you did the same.

And once in a while,
I know our hearts beat out of time.
And once in a while,
I know they’ll fall back in line.

Our love is strong.
Our love is strong.
Our love is strong.
While my heart’s still pumping blood.

I am not sure if you recommended this band to me or someone else, but this is one of the best new bands to come along in a while.

(May I also recommend a tune from "We Were Promised Jetpacks" as that is also a great new band I just discovered. Not sure if you take recommendations?)
  • Yes TRAA is a fantastic find. I'm really curious what they're going to follow Hometowns up with.

Of course I take recommendations, I will definitely check them out.

Haha Cheeseboy. For whatever reason, I also happened to discover the RAA and WWPJ within a couple of days.
    I also suggest them :).
  • Well damn. Two suggestions for "We Were Promised Jetpacks" in the same day. My iTunes is loading up right now.
