So I was at a club in Calgary last night, a dance club to be specific, Vinyl Retro Lounge to be more specific, and I saw my first shirtless bar posse; Three dudes rocking bleach-blond mo-hawks, matching tribal tattoos, and no shirts getting their drink on.  I was sure that gold like this only went down in the movies, and possibly New Jersey.  This discovery has absolutely nothing to do with tonight’s song, but I felt it needed to be shared.  Tonight’s tune is another track from the Newmarket, Ontario indie-rock act Tokyo Police Club.  Unlike previous posts, Nature of The Experiment is found on the band’s 2006 EP A Lesson in CrimeA Lesson in Crime reviewsA Lesson in Crime reviews, and this particular version is acoustic.  On a side-note, I think Tokyo Police Club is one of the few bands right now to have truly discovered the power of the sub 3-minute song.

We’ve got our tracks covered
Thanks to your older brother
It’s not the moonlight that sets me off
It’s not the money that makes me scoff

It’s my impeccable disorder
Where I keep on falling for her
It’s not the way my mother talks
It’s not the people that she mocks

It’s the nature of the experiment
It’s the patterns of my temperament
It’s the nature of the experiment
They’re taking me in increments

We’re halfway up the bracket
The rain comes through my jacket
It’s not the stones inside my shoes
It’s not the risk of what’s to lose

It’s an ancient Russian proverb
But I doubt it’s one that you’ve heard
It’s not the cracks beneath the floor
It’s not the fact that it’s a chore

It’s the nature of the experiment
It’s the patterns of my temperament
It’s the nature of the experiment
They’re taking me in increments
